Between two sizes?

Go with the larger size for insulated jackets and shells that you plan to layer over a fleece. Stay with the smaller size for tees, sun hoodies and base layers, which are meant to sit close.

Shorts and trousers

The published reference inseam is 32 in / 81 cm. Actual garment inseam shifts by style, so check the product’s own spec when length is the deciding factor.

The reference inseam for women’s trousers and leggings is 30.5 in / 77.5 cm. Waist-led styles should be chosen from the waist column, not from the alpha label.

Layering pieces

Down jackets and shells are cut to close over a base layer. If you regularly wear a fleece underneath, take one size up from your measured row.

Kids’ Outerwear & Apparel 5/6 – 18

Kids’ sizing runs on height and weight first, chest second. Measure in light clothing with shoes off. Where height and weight point at different rows, follow height for sleeves and body length, and weight for how much room a jacket needs for layers.

Buying for growth

Kids’ down jackets are sized to be worn over a sweater, not over another jacket. Size up only when the child is at the very top of a height band.

Weight overlaps

Adjacent weight ranges overlap by design — a child near the boundary can wear two sizes. Height decides the one that looks right.

Pack Volumes 1.5 – 50 L

Packs are not sized by body — they are sized by volume in litres, and the carry is tuned with the shoulder, sternum and hip straps. Pick the volume for the trip, then adjust the harness to fit.

Choosing a volume

16–26 L is a daypack, 28–35 L is a carry-on week, 42–50 L is a longer trip or a colder destination. When two volumes both work, size up for travel and down for daily carry.

Torso fit

Harnesses are adjustable but not offered in separate torso lengths, so a very short or very long torso may sit differently. Load the hip belt first, then tighten the shoulders.

How the Line Fits

Cotopaxi grades every style from the same body-measurement table, then adjusts ease by category. Use these notes to decide whether to stay on your measured size or move one step.

Down & insulated jackets

Cut close to the body to keep loft working. Stay on your measured size for a technical fit; go up one if you want a fleece underneath.

Shells & rain jackets

Drafted with room for a midlayer, so shoulders and sleeves run fuller than a down piece of the same label. Your normal size is the layering size.

Fleece & hoodies

Relaxed through the chest and hem. Take your measured size for a standard fit, or size down if you want it close to the body.

Tees & sun hoodies

Regular through the chest with a longer sleeve for coverage. No need to size up — these are the closest-fitting pieces in the range.

Trousers & shorts

Waist-led with a straight leg. The reference inseam is 32 in men’s and 30.5 in women’s; zip-off and cropped styles run shorter by design.

Plus & extended sizes

1X–4X use a separate pattern with more room through the bust and upper arm. Start from the plus table, not from XL or XXL.

Three Rules That Settle Most Cases

Measurements beat labels

If your chest says M and your waist says L, buy for the chest in tops and the waist in bottoms. Regional labels are conversions, not separate fits.

Layer, then decide

Try a jacket on over the midlayer you actually wear. A down jacket that fits over a t-shirt only will feel tight in the shoulders once a fleece goes under it.

Compare a garment you own

Lay a jacket that fits you flat, measure pit to pit and double it, then match that number to the chest column. This is the most reliable check when you are between rows.

How to Measure

Use a flexible tape, keep it parallel to the floor, and wear something light and close-fitting — leggings and a t-shirt, not jeans or a jacket. Stand straight with your feet shoulder-width apart, and have someone help if you can.

Chest / Bust

Run the tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep it level and breathe normally.

Waist

Find your natural waist at the crease when you bend to one side, then measure the full circumference there. Don’t pull the tape tight.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips, usually where the thighs meet the torso. Stand with your feet together for this one.

Arm length

Start at the base of the neck, go over the shoulder point and down to the wrist with the elbow slightly bent. Measure the outside of the arm.

Inseam

Holding the tape vertically, measure from the crotch seam straight down to the floor, shoes off. For kids, add the height measurement from the top of the head to the floor.

Kids’ weight

Weigh in light clothing. Where height and weight disagree, height sets sleeve and body length while weight decides how much layering room a jacket needs.

Care & Returns

Down: wash cold with a down-specific detergent, tumble low with dryer balls, and store loosely rather than compressed.
Shells & rainwear: wash cold, hang dry, and skip fabric softener — it clogs the water-repellent finish.
Fleece & knits: machine wash cold inside out, no softener, no dryer sheet. Shed fibres are the main wear issue.
Returns: unworn items with tags attached, in the brand’s stated return window. Gear Guarantee covers manufacturing defects for the functional life of the product.
Repairs: the brand favours repair over replacement, so log a claim before discarding a defective piece.
